Hoima District Local Government has commissioned five development projects worth Shs650 million aimed at improving education and healthcare service delivery.
The commissioning exercise, held on Friday, was led by Deputy Resident District Commissioner Aine Christopher and District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri. The event was also attended by members of the District Executive Committee, technical staff, and the Chief Administrative Officer’s representative, Senior Assistant Secretary Stephen Mwesigwa Rwamukaga.
Among the completed projects is staff housing at Kiseke Health Centre II in Kitoba Sub-county, constructed at a cost of Shs220 million. The project was funded under the District Discretionary Equalisation Grant (DDEG) and executed by Lubra Contractors.
Other projects include a three-classroom block at Kapapi Primary School in Kapapi Sub-county, built by Basingo Construction Company at a cost of Shs177 million; a lined pit latrine at Kigorobya Town Council Market constructed by Bisoge Enterprise at Shs21 million; a two-classroom block at Bukona Primary School in Kisukuma Sub-county, also built by Basingo Construction Company at Shs120 million; and a two-classroom block at Kitemba Primary School constructed by Muda Construction Company at a cost of Shs112 million.
District Chairperson Kadiri said the projects are part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and address key community needs. He noted that the district is prioritising the improvement of learning environments through the construction of classrooms, sanitation facilities, and access to safe water, alongside the recruitment of more teachers.
Deputy RDC Aine Christopher commended the district leadership for focusing on community priorities and urged schools to utilise the improved infrastructure to enhance academic performance and reduce school dropout rates, which he described as a growing concern.
He added that government remains committed to improving household livelihoods through initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).
Kapapi Primary School Head Teacher Patrick Nyendwoha welcomed the new classroom block, saying it has eased congestion at the school, which currently has an enrolment of 1,438 pupils this term.
Stephen Mwesigwa Rwamukaga, representing the Chief Administrative Officer, called on beneficiaries to ensure proper maintenance of the new facilities to sustain their long-term benefits.
