Uganda has taken a major step to expand its tourism market in Northern Europe, hosting its first-ever Uganda Tourism Symposium in Copenhagen.

The high-level event, organized by Uganda’s embassy in Denmark, brought together government officials, travel trade professionals, media, and private sector stakeholders to showcase Uganda’s diverse tourism offerings and investment opportunities.

The symposium, held at the Scandic Spectrum Hotel under the theme “Building Sustainable Tourism Partnerships and Linkages,” highlighted Uganda’s potential as a sustainable and competitive destination in Africa.

It featured presentations and discussions on wildlife safaris, cultural heritage, adventure tourism, and eco-friendly travel experiences.

Daniel Irunga, Senior Brand Officer at the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), said the country is actively seeking partnerships with Nordic travel operators.

“Destination Uganda is committed to deepening business partnerships with Nordic and Scandinavian tour operators and travel advisors, while positioning the country as a safe, competitive, and sustainable destination for Nordic travellers,” he said.

Uganda’s Ambassador to the Nordic and Baltic regions, Margaret Otteskov, underscored the economic potential of the region.

“The Nordic market is characterised by a strong outbound travel segment with a growing interest in authentic, nature-based, and socially responsible tourism experiences.

Through economic and commercial diplomacy, we remain committed to developing this market and strengthening Uganda’s tourism presence in the region,” she said.

The event also provided a platform for business-to-business engagements, aiming to foster new collaborations that could increase tourist arrivals from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Leading Uganda tour operators and hospitality stakeholders, including Crystal Safaris, Dory’s Tours, Emburara Safaris, Sites Travel, Africa Addict, and Safaris, participated in the symposium.

The symposium signals Uganda’s strategic push to diversify its tourism markets and attract more international visitors through sustainable travel initiatives, highlighting the role of Nordic countries as a key target region for future growth.
