Honda launches cheap motorbike for boda boda use in Uganda

Honda has launched a new motor bike on the Ugandan market called ACE110 at its first dealership shop in Ndeeba, Kampala. The bike already nicknamed Nantameggwa given its all round strength is specifically designed for sub Saharan terrain and mainly targets the growing commercial motorcycle market (boda bodas).

Speaking at the launch of the motorbike, the Honda head of export Christian Nguegan revealed that it took a long meticulous process and investment to finally design a motor bike that perfectly suits the sub saharan road terrain.

Boda boda riders attend the launch

He said that Honda looked to create a durable, affordable motorcycle that could fit African needs and yet give significant performance. Honda has previously been known for creating great engines but usually geared toward the high end market segment.

The company known for producing cars, generators, boats and other electronic equipment has not produced motorcycles for the mass market in the region. The market has been dominated by motorcycles from other companies like Senke, Kawasaki and Bajaj among others.

The Ace110 is already quite popular for everyday use in Africa's largest economy, Nigeria. It remains to be seen if Honda can penetrate the Ugandan motorcycle market to become the bike of choice by boda boda riders.

The Ace110 go for 4,995,000/- during the 24 months sales promotion period but will eventually climb to 5,735,000/- per bike. The buyer is assured of warranty for 24,000km of use.
