Muslims in Mityana District gathered in large numbers to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr prayers, with religious leaders using the occasion to call for fairness in the justice system and greater civic responsibility among citizens.

At Masjid Nuuh, the Eid prayers were led by the District Khadi of Mityana, Sheikh Ali Kasaliko, who addressed the congregation after the prayers.
While delivering his message to the faithful, Sheikh Kasaliko urged government prosecutors to avoid unnecessarily prolonging criminal cases for suspects who are already detained in prisons.

“We appeal to those responsible for handling criminal cases to avoid delaying justice for people who are already in custody,” he said. “Many suspects remain in prison for long periods because their cases are repeatedly postponed.”

The District Khadi also expressed concern about the conditions attached to bail for suspects whose cases are still under investigation.

He called on judicial authorities to show fairness and compassion by avoiding excessive bail requirements.

"We request the authorities to be considerate when granting bail,” Sheikh Kasaliko said. “Some suspects are still under investigation but are required to meet very high bail conditions which they cannot afford.”

During the celebrations, the District Khadi also thanked Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for the message he delivered to the Muslim community during the Eid celebrations.
He noted that the Kabaka’s message emphasized unity, discipline and peaceful coexistence among Ugandans.

Sheikh Kasaliko further encouraged citizens across the country to actively participate in the election of local leaders, especially village chairpersons, saying such positions play a crucial role in community development.
“Leadership begins at the grassroots level,” he told the congregation. “We encourage all citizens to take part in electing responsible leaders who will serve their communities.”

Religious leaders concluded the Eid prayers by urging believers to uphold peace, justice and cooperation within their communities as they mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
