A senior official from the Commonwealth Secretariat has held high-level talks with leaders of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), focusing on potential collaboration in education and social development.

Alia Zafar, Director of Human Resources at the Commonwealth Secretariat, visited the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala during her official trip to Uganda.

She was accompanied by Mary Gorretti K. Sendyona, a Reward and Compliance Adviser at the Secretariat’s Human Resources and Facilities Management Division in London, as well as James Brian Ntwatwa, President of Incredible Youth International.

During the engagement, UMSC leaders, including Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje and Haji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, provided an overview of the council’s history, governance structure and ongoing development programmes.

“We shared insights into the Council’s journey and the work we are doing to support Muslim communities across the country,” Sheikh Mubaje said.

The discussions also explored areas of mutual interest, with both sides expressing commitment to partnerships in education and broader social transformation initiatives.

“There is great potential for collaboration, particularly in initiatives that empower young people through education and skills development,” Muluubya noted.

Zafar welcomed the dialogue, emphasising the importance of partnerships in advancing sustainable development and strengthening human resource capacity.

“We are keen on building relationships that promote human development and social progress,” she said.

The parties agreed to maintain engagement and further explore avenues for cooperation.

Zafar is in Uganda at the invitation of Incredible Youth International, where she is expected to officiate at the National Career Guidance Day.
