Russia has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, blaming the United States and Israel for launching military operations under what it calls “a completely far-fetched pretext” aimed at overthrowing Iran’s legitimate authorities.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that there is no evidence that Washington or Tel Aviv are willing to show restraint and called for an immediate halt to attacks, including those on civilian infrastructure.
"On the contrary, belligerent statements continue to flow from their capitals, while the Israeli army has carried out a new incursion into Lebanon," Moscow said.
Moscow further expressed disappointment that the US and Israel are trying to drag all other Gulf nations into the conflict.
"The aggressors are seeking to sow division within the Islamic world in the midst of the holy month of Ramadan," the statement added.
Israel has been accused of striking targets in Saudi Arabia, Dubai and the British base in Cyprus in apparent false flag to compel military response against Iran.
The UK government said on Thursday it had investigated and found that a drone that struck its the RAF airbase in Cyprus had not been launched from Iran but avoided naming the culprits.
The US, for their part, have openly incited the Kurds and offered them military support to storm Iran for ground operation.
The current escalation began in late February 2026 when US and Israeli airstrikes targeted key Iranian leadership and military facilities.
Among the most significant developments was the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a move that triggered retaliatory strikes by Iran across multiple countries in the region.
One of the deadliest incidents occurred at Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in southern Iran, where at least 167 schoolgirls aged between seven and twelve were killed.
Hospitals, residential neighborhoods, and other civilian infrastructure have also been destroyed in the course of the fighting.
Satellite imagery and reports from humanitarian groups confirm extensive damage to schools, hospitals, and stadiums across several provinces.
Russia condemned the attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including those in Gulf states allegedly affected by Iranian retaliatory strikes.
The statement accused the United States and Israel of seeking to divide the Islamic world during the holy month of Ramadan and of diverting attention from the humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians.
The conflict has drawn in multiple regional actors. Hezbollah in Lebanon launched rocket attacks on Israel in solidarity with Iran, prompting further Israeli military action that damaged civilian areas.
Analysts warn that the war could further destabilize energy markets, disrupt trade routes, and exacerbate humanitarian suffering in an already volatile region.
Russia reiterated its call for all parties to cease hostilities and emphasized that only the end of U.S. and Israeli aggression could prevent further deterioration in the region.
