Staff of the Judiciary convened at the Judiciary Headquarters on Wednesday for a lively health aerobics session designed to promote wellness, strengthen camaraderie, and foster team spirit across the institution.

The event brought together judicial officers, administrative staff, and members of the Judiciary leadership in a shared commitment to physical well-being and institutional unity.

Leading from the front, Chief Justice Flavian Zeija applauded staff for attending in large numbers despite demanding work schedules, commending them for prioritising their health.

“This is wonderful. It is time to unwind. You cannot get this kind of refreshment sitting behind laptops and office chairs. Through such initiatives, we rejuvenate our bodies and minds and strengthen our interaction as colleagues,” he said.

The Chief Justice also presided over the awarding ceremony for the winner of the team-building exercise, popularly known as “dancing chairs,” recognising participants’ energy, enthusiasm, and teamwork. The exercise highlighted the importance of collaboration, quick thinking, and positive engagement in the workplace.

Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo, who led the team-building activity, congratulated the winner and thanked staff for embracing the wellness programme. She encouraged regular participation in such initiatives, noting that consistent engagement fosters unity, boosts morale, and enhances institutional performance.

Addressing the gathering, Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana, drew inspiration from the book The Leadership Challenge by Barry Posner and James M. Kouzes, highlighting the leadership principle of “modeling the way.”

“The fact that so many leaders are here today shows that leadership is modelling the way. My Lord the Chief Justice, you are modelling the way,” he said.

The session concluded on a high note, with staff expressing appreciation for the Judiciary’s continued emphasis on wellness as a pillar of effective service delivery.
