The maternity wing of Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital has received medical consumables and equipment worth Shs50 million to enhance service delivery.

Last year, in an effort to strengthen community health support, Stanbic Bank Uganda, together with Entebbe Golf Club, launched a community transformation campaign aimed at giving back to the community.

Dr. John Bosco Nsubuga, the hospital director, said the facility performs over 5,000 operations annually, about 75 percent of which are Caesarean sections.

“As a regional referral hospital, we often handle complicated cases arising from excessive bleeding and obstructed labour. The donated items will greatly benefit the community, and we will ensure they are effectively utilised for their intended purpose,” he said.

Arthur Kiwanuka, Head of Affluent Banking at Stanbic Bank, said the initiative was driven by the need to create meaningful change.

“Each time a golfer paid green fees using our FlexiPay product, Shs10,000 was allocated to this cause. What began as small individual contributions has grown into a significant impact. Today, we are proud to donate essential medical equipment and supplies valued at Shs50 million to the maternity unit of Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital,” Kiwanuka said.

He added that the donation reflects Stanbic Bank’s mission of driving Uganda’s growth.

“The equipment has been carefully selected to save lives. It includes an infant warmer, a heavy-duty suction machine, a seven-section hydraulic operating theatre table, a standard Caesarean instrument set, an LED examination lamp, and 100 Mama Kits for expectant mothers,” he said.

Kiwanuka noted that the bank is implementing a three-year, Shs1 trillion development commitment focused on women, youth and farmers — key contributors to economic growth. He added that about 85 health facilities across the country have been supported in recent months.

“While we have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Entebbe Golf Club through events such as Match Play and the Entebbe Open, we are proud that our partnership has evolved beyond sports. Today, we are delivering hope and improved healthcare to mothers and families. This Shs50 million contribution demonstrates what we can accomplish together,” he said.

The total contribution comprised Shs25 million from Entebbe Golf Club green fees, Shs7 million raised during the Independence Marathon Run, and an additional Shs20 million from Stanbic Bank’s Corporate Social Investment fund.

Serwano Walusimbi, Captain of Entebbe Golf Club, said the initiative reflects the true spirit of camaraderie.

“Golf has always promoted fitness and fellowship, but today it symbolises unity for a greater cause. We are committed to ensuring that no mother loses her life while giving birth. Giving is more blessed than receiving, and those of us who are privileged must support those less fortunate. Entebbe Golf Club will continue to stand with communities in need,” he said.
