PET bottles are widely used in soda, water, and energy drink packaging because they offer consumers convenience and portability. However, when improperly disposed of, the plastics pose serious risks to the environment, animals, and human health.

To address this challenge, Crown Beverages, in partnership with Platinum partners, has established a PET collection centre in Gulu to improve access to structured plastic recovery and recycling. As part of this launch, Crown Beverages donated a baler machine capable of compressing up to 100 kilograms of plastic into a single bale within minutes, enabling efficient storage and transportation of collected PET materials.

In addition, Crown Beverages and Platinum co-branded collection point signages will be installed across various locations in Gulu to guide residents on where they can return used PET bottles. Community members will be able to exchange collected PETs for monetary value, encouraging participation while ensuring plastics are channelLed into the recycling stream and moved to the central collection centre for compression.

This initiative strengthens Crown Beverages’ commitment to the circular economy by keeping plastic in use for longer, reducing environmental pollution, and creating income opportunities within local communities. The Tweyambe Project directly supports the three pillars of sustainability: people, planet, and profit.

Speaking at the launch, Rogers Anguzu, Commercial Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, said:

“As people continue to consume our products in PET packaging, it is essential that we also take responsibility for protecting the environment. We encourage everyone to collect used PET bottles and take them to designated collection points so that together we can preserve our environment. Following successful launches in Hoima, Mbale, and Jinja, we are proud to officially open our fourth PET collection centre in Gulu.”

The Gulu launch marks another milestone in Crown Beverages’ nationwide efforts to promote responsible packaging recovery, support local recycling ecosystems and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable Uganda
