NRM’s Suzan Nakawuki Pledges to Fix Power, Roads and Health Challenges in Kituntu if Elected MP

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Mawokota South, Suzan Nakawuki Nsambu, has pledged to address persistent challenges affecting residents of Lwamikoma in Kituntu Sub-county, including poor electricity supply, bad roads and inadequate social services, if elected Member of Parliament.

Nakawuki made the pledge while campaigning in Lwamikoma village, Kituntu Sub-county, as part of her ongoing voter mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming elections.

She urged residents to entrust her with leadership, saying she is best suited to transform Mawokota South into a constituency that serves all people equally.

She attributed the long standing problems in the area to the election of leaders who, she said, have failed to effectively represent the interests of the people.

“When I passed through Lwamikoma and saw the state of the road, I was moved to tears. I asked myself how a farmer who has harvested coffee can transport it to the buying centre without suffering losses,” Nakawuki said.

She noted that poor health services and lack of access to clean water continue to burden the people of Kituntu, yet leaders have remained silent.

“Mpigi District has nine sub-counties. Mawokota South has five, but Kituntu is the most disadvantaged. It performs poorly in education, health services and access to clean water. If you work together with me, we shall overcome these challenges,” she added.

Nakawuki further revealed that maternal mortality remains high in Kituntu, with at least three women reportedly dying every week during childbirth.

“I move around this sub-county during burial ceremonies. Women are dying while giving birth, yet these are deaths we can prevent. If you elect me, I will establish a free maternity health facility in Kituntu to care for mothers from pregnancy to delivery,” she said.

On education, Nakawuki promised to support pupils in Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools by providing meals, including porridge with sugar, noting that hunger affects children’s learning.

“A hungry child cannot concentrate in class,” she said.

She also expressed concern that out of the 39 villages that make up Kituntu Sub-county, only five villages have access to electricity, despite government power connections being available at no cost in some areas.

Nakawuki promised to lobby for three phase electricity to boost development if elected.

The NRM Chairperson for Mpigi District, Sulayiman Kaweesi, who attended the rally, urged residents to vote for NRM candidates, saying the party remains committed to improving people’s livelihoods.

“If you want development in your area, wake up early on the 15th and vote President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Then vote all candidates carrying the bus symbol,” Kaweesi said.

He cautioned voters against staying at polling stations after voting, advising them to return home and follow election updates via radio or television.

The Mawokota South parliamentary seat is being contested by seven candidates, including Suzan Nakawuki (NRM), Martin Ssejemba (NUP), the incumbent Yusufu Nsibambi and former MP John Bosco Lubyayi, among others.
