Uganda, The Minister of Tourism and Heritage in Busoga, Princess Hellen Namutamba, has urged Ugandans to celebrate Christmas peacefully and remain united as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Delivering her Christmas and New Year message in Kampala, Namutamba appealed to citizens to embrace responsible behavior during the festive season and to promote peace, tolerance, and national pride.
Speaking during a press briefing, the Minister who also serves on the mobilization team for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni extended warm festive greetings to Ugandans, calling for reflection and responsible celebration.
“As we approach the festive season, I encourage all Ugandans to celebrate responsibly and to uphold peace and unity as we move toward the 2026 elections,” Namutamba said.
With the general elections just weeks away, the Minister reminded citizens of the importance of peace and wisdom at the ballot box, urging voters to remain calm and avoid acts of provocation or violence.
“Let us remember that elections come and go, but our country remains. We must protect our peace and our future,” she added.
Namutamba also appealed to parents and guardians to guide young people away from hate speech and political conflict, encouraging positive engagement during the holidays through sports, church, and community activities.
She further conveyed Christmas greetings from the Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, who is leading mobilization efforts in Busoga Region, emphasizing the need for continuity in government projects and community development.
As Minister of Tourism and Heritage, Namutamba encouraged Ugandans to use the festive season to explore local tourism sites particularly within Busoga as a way of supporting domestic tourism and boosting local economies.
“Discover Uganda’s beauty this Christmas,” she said. “Visit our heritage sites, celebrate with family, and take pride in our culture.”
The Minister concluded her message by wishing all Ugandans a peaceful, joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year 2026.
