The Uganda Red Cross Society has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nnaabagereka Foundation to strengthen collaboration in empowering young people through culture, life skills and compassion, as part of broader efforts to build safer and healthier communities.
The partnership agreement was signed at the Uganda Red Cross Society headquarters in Kampala and is expected to unite youth-focused initiatives that promote humanitarian values, cultural identity and social responsibility.
Uganda Red Cross Society officials said the organisation has a long-standing tradition of collaborating with other institutions to advance humanitarian services, noting that partnerships are critical in driving organisational resilience and growth.
They said collaboration enables partners to pool financial, technological and human resources, achieve economies of scale and expand operations, while also providing access to new geographical areas and enhanced credibility.
Speaking during the event, Irene Nakasiita, Head of Public Relations, Communication and Resource Mobilisation at the Uganda Red Cross Society, emphasised the critical role of the media in advancing the humanitarian mandate, particularly in promoting community awareness ahead of emergencies.
Nakasiita said the media plays a vital role in informing the public, mobilising aid for affected communities and holding key actors accountable, factors that directly influence funding levels and the effectiveness of relief efforts.
She added that timely media coverage helps highlight the scale of suffering during crises, while providing real-time alerts, updates on urgent needs and practical guidance to communities.
“Media plays a critical role as a key partner in advancing our humanitarian response and promoting community awareness ahead of emergencies,” Nakasiita said.
The partnership with the Nnaabagereka Foundation is expected to further strengthen youth-centred programmes that combine humanitarian action with cultural and life skills education.
