KAMPALA — Channel 44 TV journalist Brian Ssenkumba was arrested by security forces on the morning of 15th December 2025 in Rubaga Division, with his work equipment reportedly seized during the incident.

The Uganda Media Council (UMC) responded promptly, issuing a statement signed by Chairman Paulo Ekochu expressing deep concern over the arrest.

Acknowledging the sensitive political climate, the UMC called on security agencies to exercise restraint and respect journalists’ duties under the law.

“We urge all security agencies to respect the duties of journalists within the framework of the law,” the statement read.

Ekochu underscored UMC’s commitment to dialogue and collaboration with stakeholders to safeguard media freedom while promoting national harmony.
