The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on staff of the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) to maintain the highest standards of ethics, honesty, and teamwork in their mandate to combat financial crime in Uganda.
Kaziimba made the remarks during the End-of-Year Thanksgiving Service at FIA headquarters, Rwenzori Towers, Nakasero, on Thursday. He was assisted by Rev. Hillary Jaffu, Assistant Provost of All Saints’ Cathedral, Kampala.
In his message, Kaziimba stressed the importance of trustworthiness in handling sensitive financial information and resources. He warned that internal weaknesses, such as mistrust, collusion, or unethical cooperation with fraudsters, could undermine the Authority’s systems and expose Uganda to financial crime.
“You must guard jealously the information and resources placed under your care. Any internal vulnerability gives room for fraudsters to penetrate the system,” he said.
The Archbishop emphasized that integrity is central to maintaining an effective financial intelligence framework capable of protecting Uganda’s economy, reputation, and global standing.
He also commended the FIA for its critical role in analyzing and disseminating financial intelligence to support national and international anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism efforts.
Kaziimba encouraged FIA staff to appreciate the privilege of serving in such a crucial capacity. “Many Ugandans desire such opportunities to contribute to the country. Be grateful and use your positions to serve with diligence and integrity,” he said.
Speaking at the event, FIA Executive Director Samuel Were Wandera thanked the Church of Uganda for promoting integrity, accountability, and financial discipline in society.
He noted that moral guidance from faith-based institutions strengthens societal values, which in turn reinforces FIA’s mandate.
“The Church continues to influence our communities toward values that align with financial integrity, transparency, and professionalism. Such values are essential in strengthening Uganda’s financial system,” Wandera said, adding that the FIA remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders to build a corruption-resistant society capable of preventing and detecting financial crimes.
