Uganda Hosts 48th East African Consultative Meeting on Air Transport Facilitation
She praised the recent inspection of Entebbe International Airport by delegates, stressing that the feedback from such exercises is crucial for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Uganda is hosting the 48th East African Consultative Meeting on Facilitation of Air Transport (EAC-FAL) at Speke Resort Munyonyo from 26th to 28th November 2025, bringing together key regional and international aviation stakeholders.

The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), aims to strengthen collaboration on improving air transport facilitation and ensuring the seamless movement of passengers, cargo, and aircraft across the East African region.

The event was officially opened by the Minister of Works and Transport, Edward Katumba Wamala, who welcomed delegates from the East African Community, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA), the African Union Commission, and several partner agencies.

In his remarks, Katumba highlighted Uganda’s commitment to regional aviation growth, noting that Entebbe International Airport handled over 243,000 international passengers in August 2025, while Uganda Airlines has expanded its network to 17 destinations, reinforcing the country’s role as a regional aviation hub.

Speaking on behalf of UCAA Director General, Olive B. Lumonya, the Deputy Director General emphasised the importance of harmonising facilitation standards across East Africa to align with ICAO’s Annex 9 on Facilitation.

She praised the recent inspection of Entebbe International Airport by delegates, stressing that the feedback from such exercises is crucial for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Delegates at the meeting are discussing progress in implementing ICAO standards, strengthening regional cooperation in air transport facilitation, and enhancing efficiencies in passenger, cargo, and aircraft processing. The discussions are also aimed at supporting tourism, trade, and regional connectivity.

Uganda continues to invest in modern aviation infrastructure, including the expansion of Entebbe International Airport’s passenger terminal, rehabilitation of key runways, and the development of Hoima International Airport.

These investments, combined with forums like EAC-FAL, demonstrate the country’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and globally competitive air transport services, while reinforcing East Africa’s dedication to harmonised aviation practices and improved travel experiences for citizens, businesses, and visitors alike.
