A tragic road accident in Odriga village along the Yumbe–Koboko highway has claimed the life of a Primary Three pupil and left three others injured, sparking grief and renewed calls for improved road safety in the West Nile region.
The crash occurred on Wednesday morning when a Toyota Wish, driven by 20-year-old local resident Sharif Wajarasu, collided head-on with a motorcycle carrying schoolchildren.
At the time of the accident, the motorcycle was transporting four individuals, including the rider and three pupils.
The deceased has been identified as Tairan Kamba, a Primary Three pupil at St Daniel Nursery and Primary School. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured include Faridah Ismail Andezo, 18, a Senior Three student at Aringa Secondary School, and two younger children aged six and four.
Police say preliminary investigations suggest that reckless driving on the part of the Toyota Wish operator led to the collision.
Both the car and motorcycle have been impounded at Yumbe Central Police Station pending further inquiries.
The injured were rushed to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for urgent treatment, while Kamba’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
