President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday presented the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto for 2026–2031 to residents of Kabale as he rallied support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Addressing a massive campaign gathering at Kigezi High School Primary Lower School Playground in Kabale Municipality, the NRM Presidential flagbearer highlighted the seven key contributions the ruling party has delivered over the last four decades.
The President emphasized peace as the NRM’s foremost achievement, noting that his recent visit to Kisoro demonstrated how deeply citizens value stability, especially given ongoing unrest in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
President Museveni commended religious leaders in Kigezi who sought his guidance regarding their internal challenges.
“I advised them to go and see the work being done by Nyakana in Fort Portal and Hon. Fred Byamukama in Bugangaizi West under the four-acre model. I am happy they are doing a great job,” he said.
He reiterated that Ugandans with small landholdings should focus on intensive farming using the four-acre model, while those with larger land should pursue extensive farming such as cotton, tobacco, or free-range livestock.
The President celebrated Uganda’s increasing coffee output:
“We now have 12 million coffee bags because many Ugandans have woken up.”
Museveni clarified misconceptions about employment:
“Most people think jobs come from government, which is wrong. Government jobs are only 480,000.”
He cited the example of Mr. Basangwa from Busoga, who abandoned the search for a government job, embraced commercial agriculture, and has since created 300 jobs. He stressed that wealth creation is inseparable from job creation.
Factories, services, and ICT, he noted, continue to generate employment, with new factories alone employing over 1.3 million Ugandans.
The President revealed government plans to set up an iron and steel factory in Kabale but expressed concern over land fragmentation.
“We need 150 acres. Land in Kabale has been fragmented, and now I have a factory but nowhere to put it.”
He said the planned industrial town would focus strictly on manufacturing and value addition, not retail trade.
Museveni listed development as the NRM’s second major contribution—covering roads, electricity, telecommunications, schools, and hospitals—and promised that projects not yet completed will soon be delivered.
The NRM Second National Vice Chairperson, Anita Among urged Kabale residents to rally behind President Museveni in 2026:
“He is the only hope Uganda has.”
She applauded the President’s commitment to establishing the iron and steel industry in Kabale.
The NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, Jonard thanked the President for empowering young people:
“With youth making up 70% of Uganda’s population, they need to be empowered more to join production.”
Former Prime Minister, Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda praised the President for upholding peace:
He credited Museveni for defeating rebels such as Kony, Lakwena, and the ADF, restoring nationwide stability.
Asinga Bridget Tumwesigye
The NRM Vice Chairperson for Kabale District, Bridget Asinga Tumwesigye thanked the President for maintaining peace and supporting development initiatives.
She highlighted investments in road maintenance, government seed schools, and the Presidential Skilling Hub in Kigezi, which has equipped many youth with practical skills.
