He reflected on his early involvement in the Scripture Union in the 1960s, noting that his biblical grounding played a key role in shaping his leadership journey.

“What Robert Kayanja is saying is because I had also been very active with Scripture Union in the 1960s, and I would have been a Bishop if I had not gone through other things,” he said.

He added that reading the Bible provided direction that has guided many of his decisions.

The President also recalled past debates about banning churches. He explained that his decision to protect freedom of worship was influenced by scripture.

“People wanted to ban you, but I asked why? I remembered in the Bible when people asked Jesus whether to stop those casting out demons in His name. Jesus said, ‘Do not stop them. If they are not against us, they are with us.”

Museveni noted that his main concern has always been that Born-again churches operate within the law, adding that it is God who ultimately judges those who deceive His people.

Museveni commended pastors who are creating wealth, arguing that work is a biblical principle. He observed that Jesus not only preached and healed but also worked in Joseph’s carpentry.

He urged believers to work hard, drawing a comparison with the Puritans who fled Europe and contributed to America’s prosperity. “Christians build nations,” he said, encouraging believers to avoid hypocrisy and influence society through their actions.

“Let your light shine before men so that people see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven,” he concluded.

Pastor Robert Kayanja, the lead preacher at Miracle Centre Cathedral, thanked the President for safeguarding peace and freedom of worship.

He recalled that in 1986, when the ministry faced restrictions, Museveni defended their right to worship. “Because of that decision, we are now seven million,” he said.

Kayanja noted that the growth of Miracle Centre and its ministries has been possible because of stability and security in the country.

He assured the President of the church’s continued prayers and commitment to national development, highlighting their new initiative of faith diplomacy aimed at shaping Uganda’s future.

The Command the Future Conference, running from 12 to 16 November, is an international Christian gathering focused on faith-driven leadership, wealth creation, spiritual renewal and national transformation.

This year’s event has drawn thousands of local and international delegates, underscoring Uganda’s growing global influence and its strong environment for freedom of worship.
