The Special Presidential Assistant on Press and Mobilisation and Deputy Spokesperson of the Presidency, Hajj Faruk Kirunda, has met with the Bishop-elect of Busoga Diocese, Rev. Canon Associate Professor Dr. Grace Lubaale, to explore ways of enhancing cooperation between the Church and the Government.
Held on Wednesday at Kirunda’s office in Kampala, the meeting centered on promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development in the Busoga region and the country at large.
During the engagement, Bishop-elect Lubaale invited Kirunda to attend his Consecration and Enthronement Ceremony, slated for December 14, 2025, at Christ’s Cathedral, Bugembe in Jinja City. He will succeed Bishop Paul Naimanhye, who has served the diocese for nine years.
Lubaale emphasised his commitment to strengthening the Church–Government relationship by aligning Church programs with Uganda’s National Development Plan (NDP), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Vision 2040.
He noted that the Church plays a vital role in shaping moral values and promoting national development.
“The Church must be a partner in promoting national values and development. Our ministry will focus on peace, unity, and service to our people, ensuring Busoga contributes meaningfully to Uganda’s growth,” Lubaale said.
In his response, Kirunda praised the Bishop-elect’s vision and reaffirmed the Government’s readiness to work closely with faith-based institutions to advance social transformation.
“The Government appreciates the Church’s vital role in fostering stability, moral guidance, and community progress. We trust that you shall use the Church to help our people fight poverty and improve livelihoods for the betterment of Busoga and Uganda at large,” Kirunda stated.
The meeting underscored the mutual goal of deepening collaboration between the Church and the State to uplift communities and promote inclusive national development.
