The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is currently hosting a team of over 50 district communication officers from districts bordering Uganda's National Parks and Conservation Areas.
The learning trip, taking place at Queen Elizabeth National Park, aims to familiarise the officers with UWA's responsibilities and operations.
"We are committed to conserving wildlife and ecosystems through inclusive, innovative, and science-led approaches," said UWA officials, emphasising the importance of community involvement, tourism development, environmental education, and combating wildlife crime.
The trip provides an opportunity for the officers to learn about UWA's mandate, conservation efforts, and community engagement initiatives.
This includes revenue sharing programs, where 20% of park entry fees are disbursed to local governments to support community development projects.
By engaging with UWA, the district communication officers will gain valuable insights into conservation efforts, enabling them to effectively communicate the importance of wildlife conservation to their communities.
