Kampala Central Member of Parliament, Muhammad Nsereko, has called upon Ugandans to exercise wisdom and maturity in the upcoming elections by voting for leaders based on competence and experience rather than political affiliation.
Speaking during Sanyuka One on One on Wednesday, Nsereko — who also serves as the President of the Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU) — urged citizens to prioritize capable leadership that can deliver tangible results for the nation.
“Vote not based on political parties, but on competence and experience to serve you and the country as a whole,” Nsereko said.
The outspoken legislator reflected on personal values and resilience, remarking that while material possessions can be taken away, legacy and family remain eternal.
“In this life, they can take everything from you, even your wife, but even when you’re gone, your children will always remain yours,” he said.
Addressing regional security and governance, Nsereko praised the strength of both Uganda’s and Rwanda’s intelligence agencies, describing them as “among the best intelligence networks in Africa.”
Commenting on the presidential elections, the outgoing MP acknowledged the efforts of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, but expressed skepticism about the possibility of major change under the current electoral system.
“Kyagulanyi often tries to speak sense and has done his best, but I don’t see him producing any wonders,” Nsereko said, adding that Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Simon Byabakama “cannot announce anyone else other than President Museveni,” accusing him of lacking independence and working under the influence of those in power.
A lawyer by profession, Nsereko first entered Parliament in 2011 under the ruling NRM ticket but later broke ranks to become one of its strongest critics.
He has retained his Kampala Central seat as an independent and launched the Ecological Party of Uganda in 2020, focusing on environmental protection, social justice, and youth employment.
He did not appear on the nomination papers for the presidency after failing to obtain the required signatures, citing electoral irregularities as the reason for his inability to contest.
