The Archdeacon of Busimbi in Mityana Diocese, Rev Ven Fredrick Kironde, has voiced concern over the rising number of Ugandans suffering from preventable diseases, attributing the trend to poor lifestyle habits and lack of regular exercise.
Speaking during a special service at All Saints Church, Busimbi, where he launched a series of charity runs in support of church development projects, Rev Kironde emphasized that physical wellness is an essential part of serving God and living meaningfully.
“Many of the illnesses we are battling today come from our failure to take care of our bodies,” he said.
“People no longer engage in physical activity, yet the Bible reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We must take responsibility for our own health.”
The first charity run is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, and will bring together Christians from across Mityana Diocese to raise funds for ongoing church projects while promoting fitness and community solidarity.
During the service, Rev. Kironde commended Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga for their sustained efforts to promote health and wellness among Ugandans through organized marathons and community programs.
“We are grateful to the Kabaka and the Katikkiro for encouraging Ugandans to stay active and healthy,” he said. “Their example inspires us to organize similar activities that not only strengthen our bodies but also build our communities.”
He urged Christians to turn up in large numbers for the upcoming charity run and support the church’s mission.
“Let us come together as one family on November 15,” he appealed. “Running for God’s work strengthens both our bodies and our faith.”
Worshippers who attended the launch praised the initiative and pledged to mobilize fellow Christians to participate in the event. Many described it as a noble idea that combines fitness with faith.
“This is a wonderful idea,” said one church member. “It reminds us that we can serve God not only through prayer but also through actions that improve our health and community.”
The Busimbi Archdeaconry’s charity run is expected to become an annual event supporting both the spiritual and physical wellbeing of the people of Mityana.
