The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Vice Chairman, Alhajji Moses Kigongo, has rallied women across Uganda to remain loyal to President Museveni, urging them to vote for leaders who work with government to drive local development and women’s empowerment.
Speaking during a gathering of single mothers in Makindye, Kigongo commended women for their resilience in supporting families and communities, noting that their contributions have been central to Uganda’s progress under the NRM government.
“Women have been empowered, and the health sector has improved under the NRM. These are gains we must protect by voting wisely,” Kigongo said, adding that Uganda’s stability and growth over the past four decades stem from consistent leadership and inclusive policies.
He cited advances in education, health, and gender equality, noting that women now occupy top government and institutional positions — evidence of President Museveni’s commitment to inclusive governance.
The event, attended by dozens of women from Makindye Ssabagabo and neighboring areas, also served as a platform to discuss challenges facing women’s groups and access to financing.
Winnie Nasanga, Chairperson of the Single Mothers Cooperative Society Limited, applauded the government’s continued support but called for more funding to strengthen their Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs).
“We are grateful for the progress made, but more support is needed to boost our capital base so that more women can benefit,” Nasanga said.
NRM flag bearer for Makindye Ssabagabo, Philip Munduni, commended the turnout and encouraged unity among supporters, while NRM mobilizer Frank Kabandize urged continuous grassroots engagement to secure the party’s victory.
Kigongo officially launched the Single Mothers SACCO, pledging financial support to fund start-up ventures and strengthen women’s livelihoods.
He reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to empowering women through programs like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM).
As Uganda heads toward the 2026 general elections, Kigongo’s outreach in Makindye reflects a broader NRM strategy to consolidate grassroots support and highlight the party’s record on peace, stability, and economic transformation.
