EACOP Launches Shs600m Community Road in Hoima
EACOP, working in partnership with the Hoima district local government, officially launched the project on Tuesday afternoon at a ceremony held in Katoke trading center.

 

Hoima District residents in Kabale sub-county will soon benefit from improved road access following the launch of a Shs 600 million community road by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

The 7.5-kilometer road stretches from Katoke trading center through Kayera village to Nyamasoga and is aimed at easing transportation challenges for thousands of locals.

EACOP Deputy Executive Director John Bosco Habomugyisha said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to giving back to host communities.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are working on two projects in the district: this road and the upgrading of Mbarara Health Center II to a Health Center III,” he said.

Habomugyisha added that 90 percent of EACOP’s workforce and suppliers are Ugandan, strengthening local content.

Fulcrum Consult Limited has been contracted to execute the road project, valued at Shs 600 million.

Hoima District Council Speaker Swaibu Nyangabyaki praised EACOP for the initiative, noting that the project would significantly improve connectivity in areas long affected by poor road infrastructure.

Nyangabyaki said he would collaborate with other leaders to upgrade the road’s status from an access road to a feeder road, benefiting both transport and local trade.

Samuel Mugisa, representing the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, commended EACOP’s broader community support initiatives, including water supply extensions, road projects, and school construction.

At the launch, Hoima Chief Administrative Officer, represented by Senior Assistant Secretary Atugonza Brian, urged local residents and leaders to cooperate with contractors and ensure timely completion of the road.

He also encouraged community members to engage in agricultural production to fully benefit from improved road access.

The launch attracted several stakeholders, including Kabale sub-county leadership, technical staff, and officials from EACOP, the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, Uganda National Oil Company, and local community members.
