Uganda civil society leaders and executives from different organisations have gone through a two day training on good governance and ethical conduct being at the heart of leadership and upholding the highest standards in decision making, resource management and community engagement.

Training Empowers Civil Society to Strengthen Advocacy and Promote Ethical Leadership

A recent capacity-building training has strengthened the ability of civil society actors to enhance advocacy, deepen partnerships with public institutions, and advance integrity in service delivery.

The training emphasized the importance of combining service delivery with principled advocacy and evidence-based lobbying empowering civil society organizations (CSOs) to expand access to essential services and improve the quality of public service delivery.

Through these efforts, CSOs continue to play a vital role in promoting social accountability, civic participation, and equitable development.

Their work goes beyond bridging service delivery gaps; it involves empowering communities, amplifying citizens’ voices, and engaging government institutions to ensure that public services remain inclusive, equitable, and of the highest quality.

Speaking at the event, Pheona Wall, Executive Director of the Fidelis Leadership Institute, highlighted the essence of transformational leadership in national development.

“Leadership is not merely about occupying a position; it’s about transforming lives, influencing systems, and shaping legacies. The most profound impact comes from leaders who combine knowledge with integrity, authority with humility, and ambition with accountability,” she said.

Echoing her remarks, Dr. Katja Kerschbauner, Head of the Austrian Embassy, underscored the importance of good governance and ethical conduct in leadership.

“Ethical conduct means acting with integrity, transparency, fairness, and respect for the truth—even when no one is watching,” she noted.

The training reaffirmed the need for leadership rooted in ethics, accountability, and service to the people—values essential for building a just, transparent, and inclusive society.
