The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has called on journalists to uphold fairness, balance and inclusivity in their reporting as Uganda heads toward the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a one-day training for journalists from across Karamoja held in Moroto, Yusuf Muziransa, Senior Communications Officer at EOC, emphasised that equity and equality must be at the heart of election coverage.

The training was interactive and informative, with journalists discussing key challenges they face in covering community and national issues.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Moroto, Justin Tuko, commended the EOC for bringing journalists together, noting that responsible reporting strengthens democracy.

During the discussions, George Francis Ojamuge, a presenter at Ateker FM Radio, raised concerns about the phasing out of Health Centre IIs and their upgrade to Health Centre IIIs, saying the transition has left staffing gaps that are affecting service delivery. He urged the EOC to task responsible ministries to address the issue.

Francis Longom, a presenter at Akica FM, called on the Commission to help fast-track government’s promise to elevate Moroto to city status.

The EOC said such engagements with the media are crucial for ensuring that diverse voices are represented and that communities like Karamoja are not left behind in national conversations
