Kampala – The Kampala City Festival has been officially shifted from October 5 to October 12, 2025, under the theme, “Innovation, Culture and Sustainability.”
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki said the rescheduling was necessary to allow for Independence Day celebrations on October 9 at Kololo.
In the lead-up to the festival, organizers have engaged orphanages and children’s homes across Kampala, emphasizing that the celebrations should remain people-centered.
Buzeki also highlighted the importance of regular car-free days and citywide clean-up campaigns to keep the city livable and sustainable.
She further revealed that Cabinet has approved compensation for the Kiteezi landfill project, with payments expected to begin soon.
The festival route will start at Buganda Road, Kyaggwe and Wampewo roads, culminating at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Meanwhile, police have issued strict security measures ahead of the event. Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said intelligence reports indicated potential threats, prompting heightened security arrangements.
Festivalgoers will be required to:
- Use designated entrances
- Undergo access control and checkpoint screenings, including at Hotel Africana
- Avoid suspicious trade dealings
- Respect restricted areas, with Upper and Lower Elgon Terraces off-limits
Additionally, boda boda will not be allowed beyond border points, and multiple security agencies will be deployed to maintain safety.
With a mix of cultural celebrations, social outreach, and enhanced security, KCCA says this year’s Kampala City Festival promises to be both festive and people-focused.
