PLU Supporters March to Kololo to Welcome Museveni After Nomination
Museveni was officially nominated earlier in the day by the Electoral Commission, which on Tuesday opened the nomination exercise for presidential aspirants in the 2026 general election.

Traffic along Lugogo Bypass was disrupted Tuesday morning as hundreds of Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) supporters marched to Kololo to welcome President Museveni following his nomination as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.

The group, which assembled at the PLU offices in Naguru at around 9:00 a.m., set off an hour later in a procession to Kololo, where NRM supporters had already gathered to receive their flag bearer.

The march was led by senior PLU figures, including Museveni’s brother Michael Nuwagira, popularly known as Toyota Kaguta, and House of Prayer Ministries pastor Aloysius Bugingo.

The leaders later joined other members at Deliverance Church, Kololo, ahead of a larger rally in support of Museveni’s candidacy.

Museveni was officially nominated earlier in the day by the Electoral Commission, which on Tuesday opened the nomination exercise for presidential aspirants in the 2026 general election.

Five candidates, including Museveni, had by then been cleared to contest.

Speaking after his nomination, Museveni thanked NRM members for what he described as renewed trust in his leadership.

He said the party’s record in peace, infrastructure development, and economic growth had positioned Uganda for greater achievements.

He noted that under his leadership Uganda has moved into lower middle-income status, with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) nearly doubling in recent years from $34 billion to $66 billion.

“Doubling GDP in one term is not easy, but this is what we have achieved,” he said.

Museveni will seek an eighth term in office, with the NRM set to hold a major rally at Kololo Independence Grounds later in the day.
