The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with key development partners, has officially launched the distribution of reproductive health commodities worth shs7.39 billion to 320 accredited health facilities across Uganda.

The consignment, flagged off from Joint Medical Store (JMS) in Kampala, includes essential family planning and reproductive health supplies aimed at improving access to quality care, particularly for women and girls in underserved communities.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Joseph Okware, Acting Director General at the Ministry of Health, praised the collaborative effort that made the distribution possible.

He acknowledged the contributions of USAID, UNFPA, the British High Commission, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and JMS, noting that the delivery marks a critical step toward safeguarding reproductive health rights.

"We are grateful to all our partners for their continued support. These commodities are vital for ensuring continuity of services and protecting the health of women and families across Uganda," Dr. Okware said.

UNFPA Country Representative Gift Malunga emphasized the significance of ensuring last-mile delivery, pointing out that delays or lack of distribution funding could have denied thousands of women and girls access to vital services such as family planning and safe reproductive care.

"These supplies are not just health interventions—they are investments in Uganda’s social and economic development," Malunga said.
"Thanks to this partnership, communities across the country will now receive the care they need and deserve."

Dr. Bildard Baguma, Executive Director at JMS, highlighted the challenges faced in recent months, including a stop-work order that left previously procured USAID commodities—valued at shs7.4 billion—idle in warehouses, threatening service continuity.

"This is not just about moving boxes. It's about ensuring that every mother, every young woman, every family has access to safe, affordable, and reliable reproductive
