As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) prepares for its internal elections, calls for political reform and greater accountability have intensified. Political analyst Henry Muguzi from the Alliance for Finance Monitoring has urged the ruling party and other political actors to prioritise constitutional amendments and enact laws aimed at transforming Uganda’s political landscape.

“This is the time to make amendments to the Constitution and to draft laws that can help transform the country’s politics,” Muguzi stated, emphasising the urgency of addressing long-standing governance challenges.

He also appealed to opposition politicians to work together with Ugandans in unity, saying, “Even opposition politicians should now come together with Ugandans and speak with one voice to avoid divisions that only serve individual interests.”

Muguzi further raised concerns about the use of money within the NRM during its electoral processes, describing it as a threat to democracy.
