National Unity Platform lawyer George Musisi has questioned the credibility of the recent NRM primaries, saying they were marred by irregularities similar to those often condemned in Uganda’s general elections.
Speaking during NBS Barometer on Thursday, Musisi claimed that the ruling party’s internal polls were plagued by the very electoral malpractices political actors have long criticized.
“All the bad things that we have been talking about in elections were witnessed during the NRM primaries,” Musisi said.
He also cast doubt on the capacity of the NRM’s election dispute tribunal to handle the volume of complaints fairly and effectively.
“Realistically speaking, how can a tribunal of three people hear 100 petitions and deliver a ruling in five days?” he questioned.
Musisi’s remarks come amid mounting concerns from several NRM aspirants who allege voter bribery, ballot stuffing, and intimidation during the July, 17 primaries.
