Judiciary Begins Preparations for 2025 Benedicto Kiwanuka Day
This year’s commemoration, set for September 19, will celebrate Uganda’s first Chief Justice’s legacy of courage and justice through lectures, awards, and public engagement.

The Judiciary has begun preparations for the 2025 Benedicto Kiwanuka Day, scheduled for September 19, under the theme “Upholding Justice with Courage: Advancing the Benedicto Kiwanuka Legacy”.

The annual commemoration honours Uganda’s first Chief Justice, who was abducted and killed in 1972 for his unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law.

This year’s memorial lecture, traditionally held on September 21, will take place two days earlier because the date falls on a Sunday.

A retired Chief Justice has been proposed as keynote speaker.
