You got a chance to hear from Sedrack Nzaire Kaguta, President Museveni’s younger brother, during his appearance on Sanyuka Morning Xpress. Sedrack, who has served as the Chairman of NRM Kiruhura District for 10 years, shared insights into his three-decades-long journey in the ruling party.
Born in Rwakitura, Kiruhura District, to Amos and Jane Kaguta, Sedrack grew up in a family deeply involved in politics. He recalls that during his early years, politics in Uganda faced many challenges, and he and his family had to fight against the negative forces that threatened good governance. “I am a true African, and we are in the process of building democracy,” he said. “This is the right time for me to join the regional level and serve my country.”
Currently, 11 contestants are vying for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda in the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), but Sedrack emphasized that upholding democratic values is more important than the competition itself.
You would be interested to know that despite being the president’s brother, Sedrack is clear about his independence. “He is a president to everyone, so I cannot claim him,” he explained. “He has no role in my decision to contest. The only role he has played is grooming me; he is my mentor, and that is a big role.”
Setrack strongly believes he is the right person for the position because he understands that politics is about mobilization. “It is on record that I will work across the entire country, not only in Western Uganda,” he said. His vision includes bridging the generational divide and creating a lasting bond between the ruling party and public service.
As a volunteer driven by patriotism, Sedrack emphasized that his focus is on ideology over money. “I can serve as a bridge between the people and the president, making communication and collaboration more effective,” he added. His message was clear: his commitment is to the people and the principles of the party, not personal gain.
During his interview, you could sense Sedrack’s dedication and deep belief in service. With experience, family roots in politics, and a clear vision for unity and progress, he is positioning himself as a leader capable of strengthening the party and connecting it more closely with Ugandans.
