The Minister of ICT and National guidance Dr. Chris Baryomusi has appealed to members of NRM vying for Central Executive Committee seats not to take the elections as a do-or die, calling for calm campaigns during the process.
The minister made the call during a meeting where he was meeting with the delegates from Greater Kabale that consist of Kabale, Rukiga and Rubanda where he was seeking for re-election as the NRM vice chairperson western Uganda.
The NRM Central Executive Committee elections has showed up a heated competition for different top seats the party especially there has been a heated competition for the second National Vice Chairperson (Female) that is being eyed by first deputy prime minister and minister for East African community affairs Rebecca Kadaga and the speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among.
Minister Baryomunsi noted that there should not be cause alarm in the Central Executive Committee elections (CEC) stressing that these are internal elections within NRM.
He adds that there is no need for enmity but rather its important for the candidates to be calm and explain to the delegates as to why they think they should be elected.
“I don’t think that these CEC position have generated a do or die but its rather a normal competition. Our constitution as NRM provides a process of hoe such competitions can be resolved.” Minister Baryomunsi noted.
Minister Baryomunis further stated that its only in NRM where one finds a heated competition attributing it to NRM being a mass party that attracts a lot of attention across the country.
“NRM is the only party that has representation and membership in all the districts and communities of Uganda. Therefore if such elections attract a lot of excitement and heat it’s under stable. Minister Baryomunsi stated.
"You have seen in the just concluded party primaries there is no other political party can handle these massive exercises involving all villages in Uganda.”
On August 12,2025, the NRM electoral commission held a meeting that attracted aspiring candidates vying for different seats for CEC which was aimed at discussing preparations for the upcoming internal elections.
According to a 2020 party resolution, this will be the first CEC election conducted by lining up rather that secret ballot, a method that has drawn criticism.
