A 26-year-old man was killed instantly in Kyankwanzi District when an ambulance veered off the road after a tyre burst, striking him on the pedestrian walkway.

Police in Kyankwanzi District are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of 26-year-old Lawrence Kato on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Lwamagaali along the Hoima–Kiboga Road.

According to preliminary findings, the accident occurred around 4pm when a white Toyota Hiace ambulance, registration number UBN 147B, suffered a tyre burst.

The driver lost control, swerved off the highway, and hit Kato, a resident of Lwamagaali Cell, Butemba Town Council, who was walking along the pedestrian walkway. He died instantly.

“The tragic loss of Lawrence Kato is deeply regrettable. Initial findings indicate that a tyre burst caused the driver to lose control, leading to the fatal collision,” said SP Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson.
