Delegates of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Mityana District have voiced strong dissatisfaction with how the party has treated them, accusing certain individuals of political interference and calling for the same level of support given to other regions.
Grassroots leaders expressed frustration over limited financial support, saying it is insufficient to run meaningful community programs and often forces them to use personal funds.
“The money given to us is not enough to reach all the communities we serve. Many times, we end up digging into our own pockets to keep activities going,” said Majidu Musomogwalema, one of the elderly leaders in the district.
Women leaders in particular lamented the personal expenses they incur to mobilize, support, and serve constituents without adequate recognition or reimbursement from the party.
“We love our party, but we also want to be treated fairly like leaders in other districts. We are calling on the Speaker to advocate for us,” noted Eva Kyagera, an NRM delegate from Mityana.
Representing Speaker Among at the event, former State Minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi urged party members to put aside internal divisions and strengthen grassroots structures.
“If Mityana wants to remain a stronghold of the NRM, we must lay a solid foundation and work together. Internal divisions and neglect will only weaken the party,” Bakkabulindi cautioned.
The delegates appealed to the national NRM leadership to address their concerns, guarantee fairness, and protect them from undue political interference.
They stressed that without stronger grassroots support, the party risks losing influence in Mityana District.
