Prince Kassim Nakibinge has been instrumental in protecting and developing the legacy of his father, the late Kakungulu, and grandfather, Mbogo.
According to Sheik Muhammad Kiggundu, the Kibuli Mosque’s spokesperson, Prince Nakibinge’s honesty, care, and trustworthiness have been crucial in the development of Kibuli Hill.
The Kibuli Mosque, erected on one of Kampala’s seven major hills, has a rich history dating back to 1892 when Prince Mbogo built the first mosque on the hill.
The mosque has since become a center for Islamic faith and a notable landmark in Kampala.
Prince Nakibinge, the titular head of Uganda’s Muslim community, has continued his family’s legacy by overseeing the development of various educational institutions, including the Islamic University of Uganda, and healthcare facilities on Kibuli Hill.
His leadership has also seen the construction of the Kibuli Muslim Tower, a US$10.4 million project funded by the Islamic Development Bank.
The Kabaka’s decision to choose Kibuli Mosque as the official coronation prayer site has been welcomed by the Muslim community, who are grateful for the royal family’s continued support for the spread of Islam across Buganda and Uganda. As Kiggundu noted, “We’re grateful” for the royal family’s efforts.
Prince Nakibinge’s contributions to Uganda’s Muslim community and his role in promoting Islamic education and healthcare have earned him widespread respect and admiration.
His legacy continues to inspire future generations, and his impact on Kibuli Hill’s development will be remembered for years to come.
