The mosque is very much respected because it is the pillar of Islam in Uganda

As the Kabaka’s 32nd coronation anniversary approaches, the choice of Kibuli Mosque as the official prayer site is a testament to the mosque’s significance in Ugandan Islamic history.

According to Oweek Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja, the Environment Minister of Mengo,

“The mosque is very much respected because it is the pillar of Islam in Uganda.”

At the heart of Kibuli Mosque’s rich history is Prince Nooh Mbogo, a Buganda royal who played a pivotal role in the spread of Islam in Uganda. In 1892, Prince Mbogo built the first mosque on Kibuli Hill, laying the foundation for what would become a revered Islamic landmark.
