Speaking on Monday, NIRA registrar, Claire Ollama explained that not every person who seeks to have particulars on their National ID will be required to pay for this service.

“Anybody that applied for a National ID and the same was returned with an error with information different from what was filled on the form 3, we are going to correct that error at no cost,” Ollama said.

She explained that all those who applied for National IDs filled form 3 and copies were kept and that to prove that the error was done by the person or NIRA, the physical copy will be checked.

“We are mandated to store a copy of your application form for posterity purposes and therefore, when you come to NIRA, we will retrieve that form and we will review it together with the applicant to confirm whether it is a NIRA error or not. If you think you will just come to claim it is a NIRA error whereas it is not, it will not work,” Ollama explained.

She said people who made errors or out of personal will want to change their particulars will only pay if the change they are making makes a change on the appearance of the National ID card.

Ollama said one will only pay in case they want to have their name, date of birth or sex changed.

“The fees chargeable are those resulting into change of the card. If you want to change your residence it is done freely even when it changes the card. If you are simply telling us you have shifted from Mutungo to Pakwach, you won’t be charged anything.”

“However, if you are changing the date of birth, whether changing the day, month or year, the name, or any slight detail like a letter on the name, you will be required to pay for this service.”

Those eligible to pay for change of particulars on their National IDs are required to pay shs200,000 and according to NIRA, one must present supporting documents to allow change of particulars.
