Retired Brigadier General Emmanuel Rwashande has been declared the winner of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for the parliamentary seat in Lwemiyaga constituency, securing 54.3% of the vote.

Following his victory, Rwashande extended an olive branch to his rivals, urging them to join forces for the transformation and development of the constituency.

The former army officer outpaced four other contenders, including incumbent MP Theodore Ssekikubo, who came second, as well as Joy Kafula Kabatsi, Edmond Bwiire, and Jacob Kato.“We must work together if we are to lift Lwemiyaga to the level of other developed areas.

This is not a personal victory but a new beginning for our community,” Rwashande stated shortly after being declared the party flag bearer.

He pledged to spearhead key development projects in his first year if Lwemiyaga locals trust him to represent them in parliament in the coming general elections, including building secondary and primary schools, health centers, clean water sources, and improved road infrastructure.

Rwashande also vowed to rebuild the NRM’s stronghold in Lwemiyaga, saying the party had lost ground due to individuals who posed as loyalists while promoting opposition interests.

“Let’s restore our party’s legacy. If you won’t vote for President Museveni, don’t vote for me either,” he firmly declared.

He went on to commend security forces for ensuring a peaceful and electoral process.

Emmanuel Rwashande – 16,358 votes (54.3%)Theodore Ssekikubo – 8,702 votes (28.92%)Edmond Bwiire – 960 votes (3.19%)Joy Kafula Kabatsi – 473 votes (1.575%)Jacob Kato – 11 votes (0.03%)

Rwashande now sets his eyes on the 2026 general elections, where he will face candidates from other parties as he bids to unseat the long-serving Ssekikubo in the parliamentary race.
