Confusion as Parliament cancels special tribute for Peter Nyombi

Parliament yesterday cancelled the session that had been called to pay tribute to the fallen former attorney general Peter Nyombi, after it was revealed that many members were absent.
The Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, said members had been notified late about the sitting yet the House was in recess.
"There are few people therefore we found it fit not to have the tribute today. We shall hold a special session next week," Rugunda said.
The casket containing Nyombi's remains arrived at parliament at 1.30 PM and was received by Rugunda, the chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa and parliamentary commissioners, Cecilia Ogwal and Peter Ogwang.
It was wheeled into the parliamentary foyer for public viewing but was not taken into the chambers for special tribute.
Some members however were not satisfied by Rugunda's explanation.
Noah Mutebi, who replaced Nyombi in parliament said he had just been informed at the last minute that the session had been cancelled.
"I sit on the organising committee but what I was told yesterday during our meeting is that the body will not be taken in the gallery to be honoured, but we shall move a motion when parliament comes back from recess to honour him," Mutebi said.
Another MP, James Waluswaka said that he had heard that the session had been cancelled because some MPs were planning to speak ill about the fallen legislator.
He said he was ready to fight any MP who tarnishes Nyombi's name.
Luttamaguzi Ssemakula, the Nakaseke South MP, said no one was planning to talk ill about Nyombi.
He said: "In our culture we don't talk bad things about the deceased but we wanted an explanation as to why he had been honoured in the chambers."
Nyombi will be laid to rest today in Nakasongola.
