The Member of Parliament for Mawogola County Gorreth Namugga has officially declared her bid for re-election, seeking a second term in office.
She emphasised her commitment to serving the people of Mawogola over party politics, asserting that true leadership should prioritise national interests and human rights above all.
Namugga criticised Special Forces Command (SFC), condemning what she described as the beating of her constituents.
She called for the defence and upholding of human rights, noting that no Ugandan should suffer abuse from state security forces.
“I am not here to serve a political party that has been in power for 35 years. I am here to serve the people,” she stated firmly. “Ugandans deserve leadership that fights for their rights and defends their dignity” she stated.
Namugga also expressed optimism about the country’s future under the new party leadership of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentumu noting that he has the potential to bring meaningful change.
According Namugga, the National Unity Platform party and its current administration represent a chance to move away from politics of self-interest and instead pursue the aspirations of ordinary Ugandans.
“We have an opportunity to bring something new to our country leadership that is rooted in people’s aspirations, not in personal gain,” she said.
Namugga extended gratitude to the people of Mawogola for their continued trust and support. She pledged to remain a voice for justice, human rights, and people-centered governance if re-elected to parliament.
