Five people have been confirmed dead and six other injured in a road accident in Nakasongola.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, at around 8:30 PM in Kyalweza Village, Wabinyonyi Subcounty, along the Kampala-Gulu Highway.

According to a police statement released by ASP Sam TwiineAmazima, the PRO for the Savannah Region, the accident involved two motor vehicles: a Toyota Hiace with registration number UA 415AV, and a Nissan Diesel vehicle, registration number UBL 615T. Both vehicles were white in colour and reportedly being driven by unidentified individuals.

According to Twiinamazima, preliminary investigations suggest that the Toyota Hiace was traveling from the Kampala direction at high speed when it veered out of its lane and collided head-on with the oncoming Nissan from the Gulu direction.

The injured were transported to Nakasongola Health Centre IV and Kiryandongo Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.

At the time of reporting, the identities of both the deceased and the injured remain unknown, as police continue efforts to trace their families and verify their information.

Both vehicles involved in the crash were towed to Katuugo Police Park Yard for inspection.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially along high-risk highways such as the Kampala-Gulu route, which has witnessed a number of fatal incidents in recent years.
