The army has dispelled reports from Kasese Woman Member of Parliament, Winnie Kiiza and her husband Yokasi Bihande claiming heavily armed soldiers had deployed at their home in Kasese.

The legislator and her husband on Friday and Sunday evening claimed that a group of soldiers armed with machine guns and RPGs had deployed at their residence, posing threats to their lives.

“On Friday night two armed men spent the night in my compound in Kasese, waiting for my husband to come home and they shoot him. Some friend of ours tipped us and he did not go home that Friday night,” Kiiza posted

“As I am posting this message, again, nine armed men in military uniform have surrounded our house again in Kiburara Kasese. All of them armed to the teeth with machine guns and rpgs,” she added.

However, speaking to Nile Post, army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire said there are no army men deployed at the residence.

Karemire said when Bihande made the first allegation to the Regional Police Commander Rwenzori East on Friday, the DPC for Bwera was dispatched only to reach the legislator’s residence and there was nothing of the sort.

“Yesterday (Sunday) evening when he made similar allegations, both UPDF and UPF squads reached his home in a very short time, but the home was locked and his manager confirmed to the team that Yokasi Bihande left earlier for Kampala. So Mr Bihande actually posted falsehoods when he was not at his home,” Karemire said.

“This was proved by his manager Jimmy and other technical systems used by Security  which showed the exact location where he was at that time,” he added.

Police also responds

The Uganda Police Force also confirmed that they had started investigating the allegations but Bihande had not been cooperative.

"Headquarters called Mr. Bihande and he declined to speak to the Police. This left police doubting the authenticity of the allegations. We spoke with some domestic workers and neighbours about these issues and they denied knowledge of any military presence.
