The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) to win the hearts of Buganda’s people by prioritizing investment in the health sector.

“If you want to win the hearts of Buganda, invest in the health sector to benefit the people,” Mayiga advised. “During a visit to Buruuli—one of the 18 counties of Buganda Kingdom—we found expectant mothers delivering under kerosene-lit candles, ‘todooba.’ This deeply concerned kingdom officials.”

Demonstrating their commitment to the cause, PLU and NRM figures have collectively contributed over shs60 million towards purchasing kits for the Kabaka’s Birthday Run at Bulange, Mengo.

Michael Toyota, leading the PLU delegation, revealed that their contribution had increased significantly from last year’s shs20 million to shs30 million.

Meanwhile, members of the NRM Buganda Caucus matched the amount, bringing the total to shs 60 million.

Toyota emphasized PLU’s dedication to fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS.

“As PLU, we are committed to improving people’s quality of life, and that is why we are contributing towards this cause,” he stated.

Darlen Kamusiime, Personal Assistant to PLU’s Vice National Chairman Toyota, echoed this sentiment while handing over the cash, stressing the importance of participation in the run.

“The Kabaka’s Birthday Run is a unifying event in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We urge everyone to take part,” she said.

This year’s run places a special focus on combating the spread of HIV/AIDS, with a strong call for male participation in prevention efforts.
