Five Next Media Journalists Hit the 2026 Campaign Trail.

By | April 5, 2025

In a telling wave of ambition, five journalists from Uganda’s media powerhouse, Next Media have swapped their microphones for manifestos, launching their bids for parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections.

These journalists have spent years on the frontlines of national discourse, interrogating policy, engaging thought leaders, and holding the powerful accountable.

That experience is bound to serve them well not just in navigating the political arena, but in reshaping it. These journalist are;

Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa: Known for his confident voice and trusted presence on air on #NBSBarometer, a top shelf political show and #NBSAmasngejje News anchor, Zambaali is headed for Nansana Municipality. His understanding of public affairs and audience engagement gives him a unique head start.

Mpagi Robert Sekidde aka 'Tuff B': With a calm demeanor and a journalist’s ear for the people’s pulse, Mpagi is vying for Makindye East Member of Parliament. Known for hosting NBS TV’s popular entertainment show KURT, he brings with him years of connecting with audiences and a community insight that few can rival..

Victoria Bagaaya: A force in her own right, Victoria is in the race for Fort Portal Member of Parliament. Her presence, background, drive and experience in the media industry interacting with various stakeholders positions her as a potential strong voice for the region.

Charles Mwanguhya: A revered name in political journalism having been host for #NBSFrontline, one of Uganda's star political shows and #NBSFaceOff, Charles is eyeing the Burahya Constituency in Kabarole District.

If his commanding interviews are anything to go by, he's likely to bring that same poise and clarity to parliamentary debate.

Jonah Byakutaaga: Heading to Hoima City East, Jonah is known for his sharp analysis and grounded storytelling. He’s now aiming to turn his media experience into tangible change on the ground.

It’s not every day that a media house sees five of its own simultaneously take on political ambitions. For Next Media, this is more than a farewell—it’s a testament to the caliber of professionals it nurtures.

This wave of transitions also poses an interesting question: Are journalists becoming the next crop of ideal politicians? If integrity, public service, and communication are any benchmarks, this group is off to a promising start.

Their move may inspire more professionals especially in media to reimagine their roles in nation-building. It's proof that sometimes the best way to influence the story… is to become part of it.
