The Uganda office of the Kuwaiti Direct Aid Society has launched a Ramadan food basket project to support Sudanese refugees in Uganda, targeting over 5,000 families.
The initiative, which was unveiled on Monday, will provide more than 2,000 tons of essential food items, including rice, flour, lentils, sugar, and oil.
According to Nourelhuda Ala’agab Abdalla, the Country Director of Direct Aid Society Uganda, the project aims to ease the burden on Sudanese refugees during the holy month of Ramadan.
“The Ramadan basket project is designed to support Sudanese families facing hardship. We are distributing aid to communities in Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, and Entebbe,” Abdalla said.
The launch ceremony was attended by Sudanese Ambassador to Uganda, Ahmed Ibrahim, who expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait for its continued support to the Sudanese people.
He also commended the efforts of the Direct Aid Society for extending humanitarian assistance to communities in Uganda.
“We deeply appreciate Kuwait’s generosity and the work of Direct Aid Society in improving the lives of Sudanese refugees. I also extend my gratitude to Uganda for its hospitality and commitment to ensuring stability for Sudanese refugees,” Ambassador Ibrahim remarked.
The Direct Aid Society continues to work closely with Sudanese refugee leaders and officials to distribute aid efficiently across different regions.
