A fatal road accident at Ngato Swamp along the Gulu-Kamudini Highway in Oyam District has completely sealed off the route, leaving one driver dead and another injured.
According to Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura, the crash happened when a trailer traveling towards Gulu developed mechanical issues.
"While its driver was fixing it, another trailer rammed into it, killing that driver instantly and injuring the other one driving," Kananura said.
The wreckage has obstructed the entire highway, disrupting traffic.
"The incident has completely blocked the road. Efforts are underway to tow the vehicles," Kananura added.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
"Gulu-bound motorists should divert via Minakulu Town Council and connect to Oyam-Lira Road-Kamudini.
Kampala-bound motorists should use Kamudini-Atapara-Oyam Road-Minakulu-Gulu Road. Those heading to Lira can connect to Aboke-Iceme Road in Oyam-Bobi-Gulu Road-Gulu," Kananura advised.
For heavily loaded trucks, Kampala-bound vehicles should divert from Kamudini-Aboke-Iceme-Bobi-Gulu Highway, while Gulu-bound trucks should use the Bobi route and follow the same path up to Kamudini.
Traffic authorities have called for calm and cooperation from road users.
"We urge motorists to exercise patience and discipline and to adhere to directives from officers on the ground," Kananura emphasized.
