Chebukati was a principled and diligent leader who served the nation with integrity. His death is a great loss to our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace.”
Chebukati is best remembered for his role as the IEBC Chairperson during the 2017 and 2022 general elections.
His tenure was marked by significant challenges, including the annulment of the 2017 presidential election by the Supreme Court and the highly contested 2022 elections. Despite political pressures, he maintained that the electoral process should remain transparent and credible.
His leadership at the IEBC was instrumental in steering Kenya through tense political moments, earning him both praise and criticism from different political quarters.
His unwavering stance on upholding electoral integrity, particularly in the face of immense pressure, cemented his legacy in Kenya’s democratic journey.
Chebukati’s passing comes at a time when discussions on electoral reforms remain a key issue in Kenya’s political landscape. His contribution to the country’s electoral system will be remembered as a defining chapter in Kenya’s democracy.
