Tooro's New Prime Minister Unveils Development Plans for the Kingdom

The newly appointed Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, has outlined an ambitious plan to steer the kingdom toward greater development.

Among his immediate priorities are the rehabilitation of royal tombs, the renovation of the kingdom’s parliament (Rukurato), and addressing challenges faced by counties within the kingdom.

The announcement of the new cabinet was made at midday by the King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba, during a session at the Rukurato.

The king unveiled a leadership team led by Prime Minister Rwomiire and three deputies: Harriet Nakake Abwooli, Henry Basaliza, and William Kwemara Ngabu.

Rwomiire takes over from Stephen Kiyingi Amooti, who served for two years and five months.

He is one of only three recipients of Tooro Kingdom’s highest honour, the Enkondo (Coronet), a recognition of his dedication to the kingdom.

In an exclusive interview with NBS, the new Prime Minister detailed his plans, which include the restoration of the royal tombs, the refurbishment of the Amagasani (royal homes) and the Mucwa (parliament), the recovery of Tooro’s unreturned properties, and monthly town clean-up initiatives aimed at fostering community participation and environmental conservation.

Rwomiire emphasised the trust and responsibility placed upon him by King Oyo, pledging to deliver results that uplift the kingdom’s stature within Uganda.

The announcement has been met with optimism by the people of Tooro, who view Rwomiire’s leadership as a turning point for the kingdom.

His professional background and international experience have boosted confidence in his ability to bring meaningful progress.

About the Prime Minister

Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki hails from Gweri, Harugongo, and is a member of the Mugweri clan.

He was born to the late Owekitinisa Rwomiire Aratoli Akiiki and Omubiitokati Rebecca Kimome Rwomiire Amooti. He currently resides in Kasiisi, Kiko, Kabarole District.

Rwomiire holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master’s degree in Refugees and International Studies from the University of East London in the United Kingdom.

His professional journey began as an IT Specialist at the Makerere University Biological Field Station in Kabarole. He later worked with Stanbic Bank before relocating to the United Kingdom for further education.

A seasoned entrepreneur, Rwomiire is the Founder and CEO of Resilient Logistics, a London-based company he has successfully led for over 15 years.

As Tooro Kingdom embarks on this new chapter, all eyes will be on the Prime Minister’s ability to deliver on his ambitious agenda and further elevate the kingdom’s prominence in Uganda.
